Sales Tip: Money Corruption

Billy Bob kept hearing certain funding related issues from his prospects. You know the stalls they sounded like money is never a problem here. Then when it gets time to fish or cut bait you hear, "its time to sharpen your pencil", "you need to get more competitive," "you know we are looking at some others that do the same thing and they have quoted us much lower," "do you have any additional discounts?" If you are like Billy Bob's sales leader Mary Sue then you probably have heard the "more competitive pricing," " better discount" or "we just can not compete with them whine…."

Problem: May Sue was a wise sales leader she has identified four reasons that affected Billy Bob's superficially discussion of money. The first had to do with a self limiting mind set or belief from childhood that discussing money is impolite. Second, Billy Bob was not clear about the distinction between negotiating and establishing value you know the price versus value debate. The third and fourth issue like the first one also stems from broken records or mind set issues. For instance deep down Billy Bob's excessive buyer empathy (buy cycle) is upsetting his outcome. May Sue's perception which is backed up by Billy Bob's OMG Sales Persons Evaluation is that Billy Bob really thinks deep down at his core the buyer is like him. Therefore, if the buyer is like Billy Bob and Billy Bob can not afford to purchase it the buyer also cannot afford to buy it. Along those same lines his buy cycle leads to a perception that his product is really not worth what we are asking for it.

Solution: Mary Sue suggested Billy Bob never get into a situation regarding money with out qualifying these two issues.

1. Make sure the prospect has articulated is his own words what the problem is costing him and his organization.
   
   
2. The prospects must articulate how much they would be willing to spend assuming your solution completely fixed the problem. Sounds easy and that is the trap. For instance if money records are not in alignment with your own money believes you will not pursue these simple steps.
